ANTARA: Jakarta The Indonesian government and FIFA, the world’s governing body of football, agreed to take steps to ensure a successful and easy hosting of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2023.
The deal was achieved when FIFA President Gianni Infantino visited Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Tuesday at the Merdeka Palace.

At a news conference with Infantino after their meeting, Jokowi said, “All parts of the preparation (for the U-20 World Cup) till its execution must be ensured to run (smoothly) as well as to be managed appropriately and professionally according to FIFA’s standards.
The assertion that Indonesia still retains the right to host the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2023 was reiterated in the statement. Prior to the Kanjuruhan stampede, a number of parties expressed worry that the right would be revoked.
According to the outcomes of the FIFA Council meeting held in Shanghai, China, on October 24, 2019, Indonesia was first chosen to host the 2021 U-20 World Cup.

Infantino reaffirmed Jokowi’s remarks on FIFA’s willingness to collaborate with the Indonesian government to ensure the successful staging of the 2023 U-20 World Cup at the same event.
The FIFA president stated that the U-20 World Cup is the next most prestigious men’s football championship in the world following the implementation of the 2022 World Cup, which will be played in Qatar from November to December 2022 and will feature 32 senior national teams.
The top players in the world will visit Indonesia, and they will represent Indonesia to the world, he said.
As a result, Infantino stressed the necessity of ensuring a number of factors, such as the renovation of the host stadiums for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the success of the event.
He believed that Indonesia might use the sporting occasion to demonstrate its vision and passion for football.
From May 20 to June 11, 2023, the U-20 World Cup is expected to take place, with about 24 participant nations.
