I cannot count the number of times that I have stated that we have been prepared (to host the tournament) since 2021.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – According to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali, the government is continuing its preparations for the 2023 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) U-20 World Cup while also examining the stampede at Kanjuruhan Stadium.

“The preparations for the 2023 Under-20 World Cup are still (running), and there is no hindrance, God willing. The (development of) infrastructure is still (running as well.) I have said many times that we have been ready (to hold the tournament) since 2021,” he remarked here on Monday. “There is no hindrance, God willing.”

However, he added that the present administration’s top priority is conducting an investigation into what happened and providing medical care to those who were affected by the catastrophe.

“Nevertheless, we are concentrating our efforts on dealing with the aftermath of the Kanjuruhan Tragedy as soon as possible, and the care of the victims is the primary concern” (to do right now). “At this time, the Kanjuruhan Tragedy is receiving the most of our attention,” he added.

The tragedy, which occurred on October 1, 2022, after the match between Arema FC and Persebaya and claimed the lives of 131 people, had become a cause for concern for some parties, particularly sports officials and stakeholders because it had the potential to affect Indonesia’s rights as the tournament host. Arema FC and Persebaya had played each other earlier that day.

As a result of the incident, FIFA may have decided to take disciplinary action against Indonesia. This was another possibility.

In the letter, FIFA indicated that it will establish a transformation team in order to strengthen football tournaments in Indonesia. The association also provided many ideas for the improved execution of soccer matches inside Indonesian leagues.

In order to hasten the inquiry into the catastrophe, the government of Indonesia established a joint independent fact-finding team (TGIPF) on October 3, 2022, with the goal of conducting an exhaustive investigation into the stampede.

Jokowi had hoped that the probe could be wrapped up in a month’s time by the team. On October 6, 2022, the police had identified six potential perpetrators of the atrocity.

The following individuals were identified by their initials: AHL, the president director of the competition organizer PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB); AH, the head of the executive committee for the Arema FC vs. Persebaya match; SS, a security officer; WSS, the head of the operational division of the Malang Resort Police; H, the commander of the 3rd Company of East Java Regional Police’s Mobile Brigade; and BSA, the head of the Malang Resort Police’
